Pray

Embark on a prayer adventure for your missionaries!

Our missionaries depend on your prayers not only for their success, but for their very survival. We invite you to commit today to uphold these missionary families in prayer as they take the wonderful news of Christ to people who have never heard.

Our Commitment

“Ask the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:38

We take Matthew 9:38 seriously, and we gather daily to pray for the unreached. We invite you to join us to pray for harvesters. While you’re praying, ask God if He wants you to be a missionary. He may surprise you!

Become a Prayer Warrior

By becoming a prayer warrior for God’s work, you’ll experience God’s power and get to know Him better. By doing battle for the souls of unreached people and requesting spiritual fitness for those who minister to them, you’ll affect people’s lives for eternity.

What to Pray For

Pray for perseverance, alertness and diligence. Pray for confidence in God to overcome all obstacles. You may pray for missionaries’ physical needs, their family and relationships, and their personal spiritual life. Pray for the unreached, that they may be open to the Gospel.

WILL YOU PRAY?

Sunday: Pray for your missionary’s physical & emotional needs
“And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:19).

The physical needs of a missionary are great—good health, financial support, equipment, transportation, adequate housing and safety—but our Lord’s ability to provide is even greater!
On Sundays, pray these blessings for your missionary:
•Health and safety
• Deliverance from depression, loneliness, or anxiety
• Housing, schooling, and transportation needs
•Strong, consistent donor support

Monday: Pray for your missionary’s ministry
“Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars forever and ever” (Dan. 12:3).

God has not called missionaries to foreign lands simply to subsist, but to minister. The difficulties of living overseas often raise complications.
On Mondays, pray for these things:
• Boldness in ministry
• Wisdom in use of time, energy and resources
• People for whom your missionary labors
• The working of the Holy Spirit in hearers’ hearts.

Tuesday: Pray for your missionary’s family
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” (Heb. 12:1).

Many effective missionaries have been forced to leave their work over family complications. Whether it is inadequate schooling for their children, elderly parents at home or another family matter, Satan often uses these kinds of challenges to hinder effective ministry.
On Tuesdays, pray about these needs for your missionary’s family.
• Strong marital relationships
• Needs of the children
• Support from family at home
• That their family witness will be a shining light

Wednesday: Pray for your missionary’s relationships with co-workers
“Be filled with the Spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord . . . . Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ” (Eph. 5:18-21).

Missionaries never work alone. They are always part of a team of other co-workers, donors and prayer partners. Working with a team can be difficult when different cultures are involved. On Wednesdays, pray for your missionary’s relationships with co-workers.
• A spirit of team cooperation
• Eagerness to submit to and learn from one another
• Willingness to confront lovingly • Accountability

Thursday: Pray for your missionary’s place of service
“After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb” (Rev. 7:9).

Learn about the climate, history, religion, and government of your missionary’s country so you can pray more intelligently.
On Thursdays, pray for your missionary’s place of service.
• A positive, open political and economic situation
• Growth of the national church in that region
• Missionary visas and continued access
• Safety for Christian workers

Friday: Pray for your missionary’s ability to communicate
“Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction” (2 Tim. 4:2).

AFM missionaries must learn the language of the people they reach in order to communicate Christ’s love to them. They must also learn the culture to be able to relate comfortably with people and understand how they think. The people groups AFM missionaries work among often speak some of the most difficult languages for Westerners to master.
On Fridays, pray for your missionary’s ability to communicate.
• Diligence in language study
• National contacts with whom to learn the language and culture
• Willingness to “hit the streets” and practice regardless of how weak their linguistic abilities are • Cultural sensitivity

Sabbath: Pray for your missionary’s spiritual life
“When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O Lord God Almighty” (Jer. 15:16).

Contrary to popular belief, missionaries are not necessarily spiritual giants. They are subject to the same doubts, temptations, and struggles as everyone else, and the crucible of the mission field may make these difficulties even more pronounced.
On Sabbaths, pray for your missionary’s spiritual life.
• Consistent times of prayer and Scripture study.
• Meaningful worship and fellowship
• Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control
• Victory
