God chose to come and dwell among His people in human form. AFM EU follows His example. There are thousands of unreached people groups where either there are no native Adventist workers or where circumstances make it difficult for natives to minister. Working in these two situations is AFM EU’s specific niche. AFM EU missionaries work in cooperation with the church to establish an Adventist presence by living out a Christ-centered culture that grows into a movement. It is costly to establish new, sustainable work. But for many people groups, AFM EU is the most viable option to fulfill the Gospel Commission.
Our workers sacrifice much to answer God’s call to be cross-cultural church planters. AFM EU is committed to responsibly provide for our missionaries. 1 Timothy 5:18 instructs us that a laborer is worthy of his wages. When AFM EU hires a missionary, the cost of hiring includes not only salary, but Social Security contributions, workman’s comp, taxes and benefits such as health insurance and a retirement plan.
As missionaries interact with their supporting churches, they build skills that will also help them connect with unreached people. Each missionary’s call is confirmed as they see God open doors to fund their ministry. Raising support also creates personal accountability between the missionaries and their “investors.” It also has a positive influence on the supporters as the Holy Spirit moves them to action. Church members—and even entire churches—are transformed into prayer warriors and world-changers.
God is the source of all, and He provides for all our needs (1 Chron. 29:12, Phil. 4:19). Money has spiritual dimensions. It can be used to lay up treasures in heaven (Matt. 6:19-21) and promote the kingdom of God on earth (Matt. 13:44). As Ellen White assures us in Gospel Workers, “To show a liberal, self-denying spirit for the success of foreign missions is a sure way to advance home missionary work; for the prosperity of the home work depends largely, under God, upon the reflex influence of the evangelical work done in countries afar off” (p. 465).
Your donations to AFM EU don’t just provide a living for missionaries; they fund church-planting movements from the bottom up. Have you ever started a new business? If you have, you’ll understand the costs of starting a new work.
Every gift given to AFM EU is a sacred trust. Through our careful use of funds, 80% of all donated money goes directly to the mission field. The remaining 20% goes to the important task of missionary support. AFM EU is driven by the desire to reach the unreached. All our funding is used for that end.
